Old school bodybuilders where forced to look for extreme techniques to pump themselves up. In the movie “pumping Iron” you see how these icons pumped their muscles to the max. Their arteries thick, and bloodfilled almost bursting through their skin. Others like Larry Scott used an other princeple he called “Burns”  … Before old school bodybuilders stepped on stage to be judged, Arnold reveiled he used some alcohol to look bigger and not that flat with the arteries more swollen. On certain steroids like Trenbolone and Deca Durabolin they suffered  a limp dick and very often the same happened after a cycle (PCT) With VCL this is past history.

Bodybuilders always looking for a short-cut, started to use Viagra for its vasolidating affect, creating an incredible pump. Slowly some information on this usage came to notice of the general public. By example Hidetada Yamagishi was arrested also having some NO boosters Viagra and Cialis with his stash. BALCO’s Victor Conte  confessed: "All my athletes took it. It is bigger than creatine."

The Bodybuilding supplement Industry launched their own NO boosters, like "NO Explode," "Nytric EFX" and "Satur8" - advertised as preworkout vasodilators. Many experts doubt their effect.

The average person thinks of the damage of aging as an inevitable process of wear and tear.   However, if wear and tear were the primary cause of aging in humans, a 60 year-old should have only twice the signs of aging as a 30 year-old.

Why do most 30-year-olds show few effects of aging, while the effects of aging are so obvious in a 60 year-old person?   If wear and tear were the major cause of aging, a 90-year-old person would only have 3 times as much aging damage as a 30-year-old.

At the age of 30, people have spent most of their lives with fairly high levels of human growth hormone (HGH).   HGH is responsible for growth during childhood -- and for the repair and regeneration of human tissue throughout our lives.   By the time we reach the age of 30, our HGH levels are only about 20 percent of their peak levels during childhood, and after the age of 30, they continue to decline at about 12 to 15 percent per decade, and often much more.   By the time most of us are 30 years old, our bodies no longer produce enough HGH to repair all of the damage that is occurring in our bodies.   As our HGH levels continue to decline, the damage that we call aging continues to accelerate.

The decline in HGH is not the only cause of the manifestations of aging.   Even if our HGH levels remained at the level of a 25 year-old, we would continue to experience the effects of aging, but those effects would be greatly reduced until we reached a very advanced age.   HGH does not affect the root cause of aging, as measured by maximum lifespan, but it can certainly affect many of the manifestations of aging.

By increasing the levels of HGH in our bodies, we can slow, or even reverse, many of the manifestations of aging.   It must be done carefully, though, and under medical supervision.   Ideally, this HGH replacement should begin at about the age of 30 years, but HGH replacement can be beneficial at any age above 30.   In fact, for older people, HGH therapy can reverse the manifestations of aging by 5 to 15 years or more.   There is no other single therapy currently available that can have the impact on the aging body that HGH can have.

He put smiles on millions  of faces when he helped invent Viagra. Now the brains behind the little blue pills claims to have done it again.

Mike Wyllie, one of the team of scientists who developed Viagra in the 1990s, has created a drug that tackles premature ejaculation.

He predicts the spray-on medication, designed to prolong the joy of sex for millions of sufferers and their partners, is likely to become ‘the next blockbuster’ drug.

Premature ejaculation affects more than one in four men – making it more common than the impotence tackled by Viagra. Most are too embarrassed to seek help and when they do, treatments are generally limited to powerful anti-depressants and counselling.

There is one pill specifically designed to treat the problem but it is expensive and not widely available in the UK. In contrast, it is hoped the spray, called Tempe, which could be on sale within months, will be cheap enough for prescription on the NHS.

In trials, some men using the spray ahead of sex lasted up to eight times longer. But the drug is generally thought to treble a man’s ‘staying power’.

A story on a very very controversial bodybuilder, Steve Michalik, a pro bodybuilder in the 70s, on the net you'll find many stories about him. He trained and lived like a maniac and used all kinds of steroids and recreational drugs. Firstly I want to post a story from 1990 written by Paul Solotaroff for the "The Village Voice". I posted it on BodyPage directly and got many reactions. His many friends and inside bodybuilders found it exagerrated and have mixed opinions. Later I'll post more on this exiting bodybuilder.

On May 24 Steve Michalik was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. May he rest in piece.

“The Power and the Glory”

Half the world was in mortal terror of him. He had a sixty inch chest, twenty three inch arms, and when the Anadrol and Bolasterone backed up in his bloodstream, his eyes went as red as the laser scope on an Uzi. He threw people through windows, and chased them madly down Hempstead Turnpike when they had the temerity to cut him off. And in the gym he owned in Farmingdale, the notorious Mr America’s, if he caught you looking at him while he trained, you generally woke up bleeding on the pavement outside. Half out of his mind on androgens and horse steroids; he had this idea that being looked at robbed him of energy, energy that he needed to leg press two thousand pounds.

Nonetheless one day a kid walked up to him between sets and said “I want to be just like you Steve Michalik. I want to be Mr America and Mr Universe.”

“Yeah?” said Michalik in thick contempt. “How bad do you think you want it?”

“Worse than anything in the world,” said the kid, a scrawny seventeen year old with more balls than biceps. “I can honestly say that I would die for a body like yours.”

Arnold talking openly about sex and drugs to Playboy magazine

Body building has come a long way since the day an immortal bully kicked sand into the face of Charles Atlas. Consider Arnold Schwarzenegger. At 6'2" and 240 pounds, he boasts a 57-inch chest, a 31-inch waist and 22-inch biceps. For six years running, he was voted Mr. Olympia, the supreme title in Professional body building. Now, at the age of 29, Schwarzenegger wants to become a movie star—a superstar, to be precise. He has already appeared in two movies: "Stay Hungry," an underrated Bob Rafelson film that starred Sally Field, and "Pumping Iron," a semidocumentary about the 1975 Mr. Olympia contest, which was Schwarzenegger's final championship. He made the film to dispel the talk of homosexuality, steroids and obsessive narcissism that comes up whenever body building is mentioned. Most critics liked the movie, some didn't, but on one point all the critics agree: Bodybuilders may come and go, but there is only one Arnold.

As a kid in Graz, Austria, Schwarzenegger played soccer, ran and wrestled. He always seemed to have more energy than his friends, and at the age of 15 he had a vision—as others might see Christ—of himself standing on a stage, winning the world body-building championship. Against the advice of parents and peers, young Arnold devoted his life to that goal, training an unprecedented six hours a day. At the age of 19, he moved to Munich and won the European body-building championship. He turned pro in 1969 and was runner-up for the title of Mr. Olympia. The next year he won and was never thereafter seriously challenged.

I'll post here an old article (2009) from "The New York Times"

After this article adding the studies mentioned. Don't know about you, but I find it damned interesting.

Many competitive bodybuilders take anabolic steroids to achieve their freakishly exaggerated physiques. That is no secret. But steroids can be only one part of an extreme regimen that can wreak havoc on the body.
Human growth hormone, supplements, painkillers and diuretics can also be used to create the “shrink-wrapped” muscles so prized in the aesthetic. And the high concentration of muscle mass puts stress on the body, as if the lifter were obese.

Lifting weights in the gym is “extremely healthy for you,” said Kenneth Wheeler, a former elite bodybuilder known as Flex. “But if you want to be a bodybuilder and compete at the highest level, it has nothing to do with health.” A relatively rare form of kidney disease forced Wheeler to retire in 2003 at age 37, and he needed a kidney transplant later that year.

I want to catagorise some known and unknown influencing factors on the half-life and potency of injected steroids.

Many factors determen the effect of a active componenet solved in an oily depot. That is the oily carrier itself, the preservative that is used to protect the oily injectable against bacteria and fungus. Then sometimes a solvent and a co-solvent is used, these solvents are also responsible for the viscosity and syringability. Meaning? The viscosity (thickness) of the oily injectable comes from the oily carrier, the solvent mostly benzyl benzoate and some co-solvents such as Ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, gauiacol and co-solvents such as Ethyl Oleate.

"Fat, sinew, bloody effluvia, and bits of meat." Oh, and ammonia"

Since beef is an important ingredient for most bodybuilding diets and even a lotta fastfood is consumed on the "Junk Day". we want to inform you about the quality like we did before: //juicedmuscle.com/jmblog/content/happy-fastfood-menu?page=1

This is what you're eating when you buy and prepare ground beef from most grocery stores in the U.S. today. It's also what you're eating when you eat a fast food burger or grab a quick bite at your local diner, most likely.

The latest issue of Mary Jane's Farm spreads some light on what's really in our ground beef. And the results of what they found are enough to make this particular blogger swear off ground beef for good. The article isn't online yet, but here are a few choice quotes:

- "Ten years ago, the rejected fat, sinew, bloody effluvia, and occasional bits of meat cut from carcasses in the slaughterhouse were a low-value waste product called 'trimmings' that were sold primarily as pet food. No more. Now, Beef Products Inc. of South Dakota transforms trimmings into something they call 'boneless lean beef.' In huge factories, the company liquefies the trimmings and uses a spinning centrifuge to separate the sinews and fats from the meat, leaving a mash that has been described as 'pink slime,' which is then frozen into small squares and sold as a low-cost additive to hamburger."

Though most of our readers are to young to suffer from age relatedprostate problems, a unhealthy prostate can damage not only the sexualperformance but also the bladder and peeing. Man entering their forties may start to find this article interesting, just like bodybuilders that are using anabolic/androgenic steroids (AAS).  Most bodybuilders juicing, are using means like HCG to prevent there testicles from crimping,  anti-aromatase to prevent their steroids from aromatising and silymarin to protect their liver. The prostate, an other organ that is effected by side effects of AAS use, is somewhat neglected.

A case of toxicity from DMAA party pills in New Zealand

This is  an incident but since we post a lot about DMAA I thought to let you know

‘Party pills’ are synthetic stimulants that emerged in New Zealand in the early 2000s. Most were 1-benzylpiperazine (BZP)-based and were widely consumed. Evidence accumulated of risk and toxicity and BZP was subsequently scheduled.1,3

Dimethylamylamine (DMAA) is one of the next generation of ‘BZP-free’ party pills.

This report describes a case of a serious complication associated with the recreational use of DMAA.

Case report

A 21-year-old man was out with friends and purchased a quantity of legal party pills identified as ’99.9%-pure DMAA’. He took the recommended dose of 2 tablets at approximately 11:30 pm along with a capsule identified as 150 mg of caffeine. He had already ingested 1 can of beer.

Within 30 minutes he developed a severe global headache and called for a friend to take him home. He subsequently became confused, incontinent of urine and vomited for 2–3 hours before falling asleep. The next morning he was drowsy and had slurred speech. He did not improve during the day so at 6 pm he was taken to the local hospital emergency department (ED).

Figure 1. DMAA capsules and packaging (brand name obscured)

On arrival in the ED he was confused and had slurred speech. He was disorientated in time but not person or place. He could not give a coherent history. He had a right facial droop and right-sided weakness. There was no sympathomimetic toxicity evident, however 19 hours had elapsed since ingestion. His heart rate was 65 bpm and blood pressure was 126/66 mmHg.
