The predisposition for baldness is often genetic. The major suspects in hair loss are, in fact, androgens.

The operation of the androgen testosterone in various organs, is dependent upon the conversion into dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. DHT is, in fact, only toxic to certain genetically predisposed hair follicles. Its presence results in the shrinking of the hair that appears increasingly small and vulnerable. The hair, with the depigmentation which also shows at this stage, is defined as downy hair, similar to that of neonates. If nothing is done with a proper treatment this progressive atrophy proceeds until the death of the hair.

Typically, the androgenic alopecia affects especially the upper part of the temples, manifests itself in the so-called bitemporal recession; thinner than also affect the upper portion of the head and moves up to the full path. Areas less sensitive to the action of androgens to the neck and the lower portion of the scalp; these areas are usually spared by the advance of baldness.

As we know testosterone increases after an intense workout with weights. A protein-rich diet, and the use of specific food supplements and / or anabolic steroids further increase the amount of testosterone. Even the tanning lamps and excessive exposure to sunlight can weaken the hair and gradually promote the hairloss.

Misconceptions
