Shop foreman at a very large and reputable domestic car dealership. Associate degree from a technical college. I take hundreds of hours worth of training every year just to keep up with technology. You almost have to be an engineer to diagnose the electronics on these new vehicles! You can't be just a dumbass high school dropout to work on cars anymore. I see many people try to get into the field, just to find out they aren't smart enough to diagnose their way out of a wet paper bag!

Ethan, I am also a specialist on the LS line of engines and own a pretty wild one! Great engines. My brother and I used to run a high performance shop up north.

Herc.. Get out of the stealer world and open your own place. Take the training and run. No more warranty rip off and "Will make it up some place" excuses. Get paid
the full hour you put into the car and turn profit on your parts too. I watched as times got cut and labor rate went up. As a tech and shop foreman all the benefits
started getting chopped. It was time to go. And your right. No one with a 12 volt test lamp and wire cutters stands a chance. Its a new world in the auto field.
But as the old saying go's, I get paid to pay attention. I only pay as much attention as I get paid for the job. Now I always get paid.

                      Good luck.
Building my self for a better tomorrow.

I have a criminal justice degree because it was the pre-law curriculum. Law school was the plan then life hit and school got put on hold. Life being a wife and kid. I worked construction for a few years as a pipe fitting superintendent but always had ownership in my families title pawn business. In the last ten years with the crash of the economy and some very good investments and my percentage of ownership going up I was actually able to retire at the old age of 36. Lol After taking the last couple of years to travel, play some awesome golf courses I'm currently working on getting back into school to obtain a law degree. It may take awhile basically starting over after this long but that was my plan and I'm not one to leave unfinished business! Wish me luck cause I'm going to need it!

I hear you Time Bandit. The cars keep getting harder to fix, I keep working more hours, and I'm making about the same pay or less than I made years ago. Warranty is a ripoff...and everything is warranty! Maybe someday I will open my own shop. My brother and I had our own shop up north but we only did it on the side and both had full time jobs, It got to be way too much. At one point I had my full time job at the dealer, my own performance shop, and I was bouncing at a night club Friday and Saturday. Wore myself out!
