If the product was kept in the proper storage enviroment and not exposed to extreme temp. changes then it should be fine. Exp dates were placed on Medication starting in 1979 when Congress decided to require manufacturers to place the date on products guaranteeing when the drugs would still deliver full dose effectiveness. Most of what is known about the effectiveness of over the counter drugs and prescription drugs comes from a study that the FDA did for the Military because the Military was concerned they would have to trash Millions of Dollars worth of unused Meds. What they found was that over 90% of more than 100 different drugs were still perfectly good to use even 15 years after the exp. date. Now I personally wouldn't use something that expired 5 or 10 years ago but I'd have no problem using it in under your situation.
