Omeprazole is nowhere near the strength of Nexium. Omeprazole is a mild PPI compared to Nexium. Omeprazole is over the counter now, aka Prilosec.....

This web site and many other say there pretty much the same. Where I'm from Omeprazole is not over the counter.

I hear ya bro, but having acid reflux myself, I can say I've tried them all and Nexium is the only thing that works well for me. I can eat the spiciest foods everyday and not have any discomfort with Nexium. I couldn't do that with Prilosec. My co--pay on a generic Prilosec is $15 and it's $40 for Nexium. I'd still get the Nexium if it was $100. Proton Pump Inhibitors work well especially ones like Nexium that can and will heal previous acid erosions. Aciphex is another good PPI.
