Lesnar highest paid MMA athlete, 13th overall

The figures are in and Brock Lesnar is the highest paid MMA fighter in the business.

Earlier today, ESPN released their breakdown of the top earners from 30 sports, covering everything from the Big Four (baseball, basketball, football and hockey) to darts and billiards, and the former UFC heavyweight champion lands at Lucky #13 overall by earning $5.3 million between his ?prize money? and estimate pay-per-view shares. Sponsorship and endorsement earnings are not factored into the calculations.

Boxer Manny Pacquiao and New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez share the top spot, with both superstars bringing $32 million dollars last year. Others in the top 10 include Kobe Bryant, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kimi Raikkonen. The back of the bus belongs to professional bowler Shannon Pluhowsky, who pulled in just over $40,000 in prize money on the 2009-10 PBA Tour.

Lesnar?s $5.3 million also lands him slightly below the average amount earned by the 30 athletes, though the astronomical earnings of Rodriguez, Pacquiao and a handful of others skew the data to the high side.

This news will make many look even closer at the weaker-than-normal numbers Season 13 of The Ultimate Fighter has been pulling in with Lesnar as one of the two coaches. While the Spike TV staple climbed to 1.3 million viewers for last week?s third episode, the numbers are still lower than anticipated with Lesnar on board.

Lesnar is scheduled to face Junior dos Santos in the headlining bout of UFC 131 in June.

Of course, pulling in the most money doesn?t guarantee you?ll be a successful draw or win you championships. Just ask Vincent Lecavalier or Peyton Manning.
