That guy could not squat double his body weight in high school. I also rest the bar on the top of my shoulder blades/back/neck. Look on actual youtube, the ratings and comments were disabled. Guessing he didn't want to be called a liar for what I said above and for I am guessing he was repeatedly called a pussy..

I'll admit, they probably aren't the best for you. But guess what! No heavy lifting is really good for your joints haha. I've never had any trouble with my back from squatting and I def do double my body weight and more! My knees however... that's another story :P

        i liked layne norton's reply :

No sir, you did not provide any scientific validity and in order to make an assertion anyone who even has a smidgen of credibility in science knows you need to back up what you are saying with actual evidence. But you aren’t a scientist, you are another mainstream know it all who thinks they can say whatever they want without fear of being called out on their nonsense. By your logic I can claim that you are a transvestite cross dressing pedophile and I don’t have to back up any of it with evidence… in fact it is YOUR job to prove my assertion wrong. Yes, sounds just as asinine when I try to pull it.

So let me get to the actual science since you are obviously 1) not informed and 2) don’t care to know the actual facts.

Weight training including properly performed squats can strength bone structure and density:
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20647940

If squats are so terrible then why do they improve performance in athletes?
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20139780
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19826302

Traditional squats 43% more effective at muscle activation than machine (smith) squats:
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19855308

Squats increase activation of core muscles:
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18076231

Squats increase lumbar spine bone mineral density:
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21873901

Resistance training (including squats) reduce fall risk in frail elderly women:
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15086643

A poll of sport coaches who identify the squat as the most important resistance training exercise for improving performance:
        http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19826308

After looking all over for data suggesting that squats were more dangerous than other exercises, I found nothing. When you take these together, we can see that you are not only a fraud but you are so arrogant that you believe no actual evidence is required for you to actually validate your claims. Additionally, though you posses ZERO credentials to comment authoritatively on the subject, you feel the need to do so in an authoritative way. This is the epitome of arrogance and delusion. My suggest is that you humble yourself, do some actual research, and as Mr. Ripptoe states… stop being a pussy. =)

        Regards,
        Dr. Layne Norton

Squats can kill you, that is true, they also can damage you pretty bad and it isn't an exercise one should do in a rush or without proper form.. that's why you start at low weight to master the form then slowly up your weights .... once you master it it's fine
Ain't no use in lookin' down
Ain't no discharge on the ground
Ain't no use in lookin' back
