A Canadian Border Services Officer holds vials of anabolic steroids he discovered in a jar of curry.
Anabolic steroids are the most-seized drugs by border agents who monitor international postal traffic, information obtained by the National Post suggests. .

Anabolic steroids bound for bodybuilders and other athletes — including high school and university students — are the most-seized drugs by customs agents monitoring international mail, according to data obtained by the National Post.

From January to July this year, the Canada Border Services Agency made 933 individual seizures of more than 105,000 grams of steroids. That accounted for 33% of the total number of drug seizures made.

In 2013, there were 1,679 discoveries of concealed steroids — amounting to more than 260,000 grams — about double the number of seizures involving marijuana.

The dangerous drugs, only available legally in Canada by prescription, are being shipped in huge quantities by sophisticated smugglers in China, Thailand and other countries

Unfortunatly , it's true ... Today , it's easier to find a kilogram of pure cocaine or crustal meth than ordering on the web and getting it in Canada .

EDMONTON - A nurse at the Canadian Forces Base Edmonton hospital who lost her job as a result of selling steroids to soldiers had her sentence appeal shot down Tuesday.

Helene Bouchard -- a 50-year-old ex-soldier and retired competitive bodybuilder -- was fined $1,500 in June after earlier pleading guilty to charges of trafficking in steroids and attempting to export a controlled substance.

Defence lawyer Robert Hladun argued before the Court of Appeal of Alberta that the sentencing judge made a legal error when he fined Bouchard instead of giving her a conditional discharge, which could have resulted in her not getting a criminal record and not losing her job.

However, the three-judge panel unanimously rejected the appeal, saying the lower court judge did conduct the proper analysis and his sentence was not inappropriate.

"She is a very, very lucky woman that the Crown did not file a cross-appeal," said Justice Jean Cote.

According to agreed facts, Bouchard retired from the military with the rank of Captain in 2002 and had been employed as a civilian registered nurse with an office within the Base Hospital at Care Delivery Unit B.

In April 2012, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service received information that Bouchard was selling steroids to members of the First Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry.

An investigation was launched and Bouchard was arrested on Sept. 26, 2013 at the Edmonton International Airport while enroute to Las Vegas. In her luggage, police found three vials of steroids.
