    Taking Fitness Too Far

    Being concerned with your diet and activity levels is a great thing. Far too many people pay little attention to the junk they shove down their throats or the hours they spend on the couch watching TV while not moving a muscle. It’s in your best interest to move around, eat healthy, and not overeat. Unfortunately, there are some people who take fitness to an inappropriate extreme that can very unhealthy.

    Not Eating Enough

    Restricting caloric intake can lead to weight loss, and it often has many healthy benefits. It’s very easy to take this too far, however. Many people become obsessed with eating less. It is recommended that you eat 2,000 calories per day, and anything less than 1,500 is unhealthy. Some people try to cut their intake down to almost 1,000 calories, and this can do serious damage to the body. You need to look at food as a source of fuel that allows your body to function, not as an enemy that contributes to weight gain.

    Exercising Too Much

    While exercising and keeping active are great for your health and fitness, it can be overdone. For starters, rest days are absolutely necessary. If you don’t ever take a day off and continue to push yourself over and over again, you will actually do more damage to your muscles than good. Exercising causes tiny tears in the muscle fiber that is repaired during sleep and rest. It is this process of repair that causes them to grow larger and stronger. If you do not allow this repair to take place, you will end up making your muscles weaker over time.

    It’s important to remember that everything must be done in moderation, even those things which are good for you. If you notice that you have been engaging in these actions to an unhealthy extent, and you can’t stop, it may be time to ask for help.
