In New Jersey, a Civil Protective Order, also known as a Restraining Order, is a legal remedy to protect individuals from domestic violence, harassment, or stalking. Eligibility for a Civil Protective Order depends on the victim's relationship with the abuser. Two types of Protective Orders are Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and Civil Protective Order In New Jersey. These orders may include prohibiting contact, restricting access to shared residences, granting sole possession of shared property, ordering the abuser to surrender firearms, providing custody and visitation arrangements, and requiring counseling or therapy.
