  • wasted time.

today was my chest-bi/tri day. all i gota say is i feel like i wasted my time today. i was so shakey and weak,i couldnt hardly get done what i wanted.
yeah yeah..i know some,if not most,of you will tell me i shouldnt be tryin to lift heavy all the time. but thats just been my training habit.shoot me.lol
between the lil shithead that kept "shadowing" me just to have his own compitition with me...to wich i never agreed to,everybody using the weights i was gonna use(i ended up waiting 3 minuts between sets),having to wait for people to get outta the way,and the whole weak and shakey deal,...i was kinda hating the fact that i was there.
it also kinda felt like the whole gym population was migrating to where ever i was goin. so, i just did a quick 1 set per exercise for my tri's,and cut half of my exercises for my bi's out cause of the waiting, and i just left.

i dont know about you guys..but i hate even being around a gym when "that guy" is there. ya know what one im talkin about....the guy that always has to try to one up you in anything your doin. you set down a certin weight..and he either grabs it and trys to do an extra rep or puts that lil smerk on when he picks up a heavier weight and trys to do it.....and then fails. thats what i had to put up with from a lil tard thru my whole chest routine.
i was on the incline and he was doin flat bench. i put of my warm up weight(135) and he looks right at me and laughs. i put on the weight i use for my fisrt workin set(225) and he puts it in his bar and does it. i just pay him no mind and put on my next weight(275) and he puts it in his bar...i put on my next weight (315) and he looks like he's all pissed off at me. i walk back to the water fountin to get me some water and i watch him go and put on (2) 5's....i put on my next weight (350) and finish up my set....after that..i guess he was bound and determined to one up me. it was stupid, annoying, and childish.im usually very good at staying focused on nothing other than what i need to get done. but, that kinda childishness is my weakness and i cant help but to spot it and get aggrivated.

all that to ask yall some questions. not only to help me,but to maybe give some other guys some ideas too.
what do yall do to push thru those "off" days?
what do yall do to tune everybody else out?
what do yall tell youselves to push away that feeling of "i should just stop"?

We all have those days brother.Rough day at work, more mentally than physically and I have to drag my ass to the gym.But when I feel like that,I make sure I get there.Nothing else on my mind but getting there.Once im there and lifting though,I really start to feel better and am then glad I didn't skip the day.

As for the punk, just get in your zone and forget about everything and everyone else.Bring some tunes with you and pop on your headphones and focus on the workout.Don't even look at that idiot. The more you do,the more you lose focus on why you're there.Just keep imagining your next set, your next rep and so on and you'll get thru it brother and leave the punk to play with himself.

To be honest with u chevy if you are hitting the gym religiously their is nothing wrong with taking a day OFF.
sometimes a shitty day at the gym is ur body or mind telling u they need a break. rest up and come back harder.

ohh yeah brother. i get what your sayin. i felt better after i got there. i guess watching that kind of childishness, got to me and thats my fault.
as far as the day off...im thinking about a week off. who knows. its really not time for it. but, between the weather making my joints hurt all the time(its been raining for almost 2 weeks) and just not being able to do what i need to do in the gym.....maybe its time i just get over it and take a week off. what do yall think?

You know what I think,we've talked about this in another post. You need to go lighter to take cvare of the pain you are having and work on building up the other muscles around those that are injured.I know its hard to change up a routine that you're used to but,why keep hurting yourself?

As for the time off,if you have been pushing too hard.it wouldn't hurt either.Sometimes recharging your batteries is all you need. But at the least, try some of the workout routines I suggested and see how things go with that.

yeah man, im onna use your tips,no doubt about that. otherwise,im a jackass and stupid to boot.lol
not only am i gonna use them for my shoulder day,but i think i should try what you said and apply it across the board. like the goin lighter, cutting the sets and uppin the reps. i think that sounds better anyway, for right now, dont you?

I do bnrother. That way you're still getting your workouts in but doing it with a lighter load will help you greatly with the pain.Plus you'll be surprised at how introducing a new routine into your mix will have a huge impact on your muscular gains. The key is always to shock the muscles with new angles,rep/set schemes,wt,etc.

its very easy to overtrain, what does your routine look like? are you in there everyday? how long have you been on the same routine? even if you work one muscle group a day, and they get the proper rest, all your movements are working off the same nervous system. you have to take a day off now and then. and every 3 months or so your body will appreciate a week off. one week wont hurt you if youve been at it hard for months on end
Pain is just weakness leaving the body

i was taught the routine in-directly from an old timer that was HUGE the last time i saw him. 54y/o 6'6" and 375lbs dude had a 22 when i first met him and a 23" arm the last time i saw him..
he said it was the bread and butter of any routine,so i followed it and saw great results. i got to a great size and have been pushin almost too hard to get it back. i was natural then, unless you counted protein shakes and pre-workout supps. im still natural now.....even tho im planning on changing that here soon.lol

im thinking of changing my routine to yours....i think it might work a lil better.plus, i like the thought of just workin during the week and having the weekends off.
