Don't want to get too serious on everybody but the earthquake in Japan has me doing inventory on my "disaster grab bag". I live on the west coast of the US and in my last 2 jobs I have been involved in disaster preparedness training. Not to be a downer but its only a matter of time till the west coast of America experiences a major quake.
Your grab bag should include:
- A basic first aid kit
- Water purification system (filter or UV treatment are best)
- A "make shift" shelter
- Enough food for you and yours (2000 calories per day)
- Some form of defense. Its sad to say but I don't think our communities would be so disciplined or well behaved as the Japanese so looting and rioting could happen.
This "grab bag" or bags should be stored in a place that should be safe and easily accessible in the event of a disaster.
I'm far from being one of those doomsdayer "the sky is falling" kind of guys but being prepared espescially if you have a family is important.
Alright, I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks.
