who doesn't want a better sleep? right. i came across an interesting article on scott hermen fitness.
Are Your Gains Affected By Your Sleeping Position?
For centuries, the people of the Middle East as well as Asia have believed and graciously shared the principles of the healthiest way to sleeping soundly. Ancients believed that our intellect improved by sleeping with our head facing East and that our lives were lengthened by our head positioned towards the South. Astrologers, astronomers and physicists have known and offered proof that the position of the body in correlation to the Earth’s revolution, can in fact, help you achieve a more restful and calming sleep pattern.
As I discuss the position that one would lay, bear in mind that I refer to the direction that the top of the head is pointed. Since we understand that the magnetic pole of the Earth stretches from the positive magnetic North Pole to the negative magnetic South Pole, we should also be aware that our bodies mimic the positive magnetism in the head and the negative magnetism in the feet. Gravitational force as well as equilibrium in the head helps us to maintain balance throughout our daily activities. So when resting in a horizontal position, it is believed that the top of the head should face South or East.
The theory that two positives or two negatives repel each other from the perspective of magnetic forces reinforces the thought that with the head positioned towards the positive North Pole, it will encourage the two positives to repel each other and cause a struggle between the two. This position prevents a smooth transition to get a full REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. However, when we lay in the position of our head (positive) facing South (negative), we achieve a mutual attraction, causing no opposition of energy but rather a union of forces to create a steady flow of neurological energy.
We also know that our planet revolves itself from west to east, and sun's magnetic field enters earth from the east side. This magnetic energy enters our head if we lay facing East and exits our feet which would be facing West. So we can summarize that the positive flow of energy from head to toe will provide us with more harmonious magnetic waves in the brain and send those positive influences through the body at rest. You wake up feeling refreshed and invigorated as opposed to sluggish and heavy from sleeping in the position of West to East or North to South.
Other contributing factors to consider in achieving a more restful sleep, would be to limit your food intake to light meals before bed, try and turn from side-to-side when laying down to keep the blood circulating more evenly, avoid reading/watching heavy material before bedtime (Thought provoking topics like “death”, “violence” or of a “sexual” nature), you can also try meditating or repeating mantras to help quiet the mind and most importantly, never go to sleep angry. If there is discord in your head before you try to sleep, that negative energy will interrupt the positive influence of position and negate any benefits that sleep would offer.
Take the time to find a compass and see which direction you are sleeping in at home. Keep in mind that your body recovers and repairs while sleeping and produces the most HGH (Human Growth Hormone) when you enter SWS (Slow-Wave Sleep) which is crucial to your body’s overall development. Who knows, you could already be sleeping with the top of your head facing East or South and your feet positioned towards the West or North. But if you’re not and you seem to be tired all the time and not able to think clearly, a change of direction could be all you need to get the most out of your day and your workouts with a good night’s sleep!
