  • Police operation against a Majorca-based organized network

The National Police Drug Unit and Organised Crime division is conducting a major operation in Mallorca against the manufacture, sale and distribution of illegal anabolic steroids on the island (with the drugs being exported to the mainland and parts of the European Union). A laboratory was found.
The operation started in the early hours of Monday morning with the collaboration of police from the Spanish mainland. Police simultaneously searched more than 14 private homes, shops and gyms in different parts of the island. The main activity was centred at a luxury chalet in the village of Son Ferrer located in the municipality of Calvia, where officers arrested the ringleader after making a search of his house where they found a vehicle worth more than €350,000. More than 12 people have been arrested including the president of the Balearic IFBB (International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness) Javier Sbert who has been president of the federation for five years.
Some local bodybuilders as well as a Guardia Civil officer have also been arrested.
As part of the operation by the National Police against a Majorca-based organised network responsible for the alleged manufacture and sale of illegal anabolic steroids, various luxury cars have been seized. They include a Ferrari, a Bentley as well as a Mercedes, BMW, Dodge and VW Touareg.

Three people have been detained in custody as a result of the operation and seven others have been released on bail of 10,000 euros.
