  • the end of roids only

What I posted about the golden era is still very accurate. Weider wanted to stop it 2004 - 2005 and the professional division of the IFBB published some new rules. the only thing that what went wrong is that it seems that the judges sail their one course

Earlier drug testing got Shawn Ray Screwed. (1990 Arnold Classic Champion - lost title due to failing drug test)

Weider wanted to get BB'ng into the Olympics to prove to the IOC that it was not just drug filled sport - They not only drug-tested the Olympia, they also tested the Arnold Classic, the NPC Nationals, the NPC USA and the NPC North America. In other words, the two biggest pro shows and the three national qualifiers. They only did it for one year because it was obvious that the fans didn't like it. At the Olympia that year, everyone was off their previous best and some of the guys (like Vince Taylor, Ron Love and Mike Quinn) were way, way off.
Also, Vince McMahon was just coming into the bodybuilding scene and he was preparing to launch the WBF (World Bodybuilding Federation) in 1990 - 92. They were trying to recruit the top guys from the IFBB and one of the things they told them was that they were not going to test and the guys could use whatever they wanted.
By the time '91 started, the IFBB decided not to drug test anymore. The testing wasn't foolproof and many of the guys were getting by the tests and weren't really clean while other guys looked absolutely terrible because they really went in clean.
