It's not new.http://jas.fass.org/content/49/3/729.full.pdf.An allyl substituent looks a bit bulky for ideal androgen receptor binding. Probably doesn't interfere with progesterone receptor binding though.
A methyl group is small, only one carbon atom (+3 hydrogens), and fits fairly neatly inside the binding pocket of the androgen receptor. An ethyl group is two carbons, which also fits ok. An allyl group is three carbon atoms long. Afaik, activity tends to decrease significantly when the length of the side chain increases beyond an ethyl.
17a-allyl-deca has weak affinity for AR , same with DHT.
