  • Takanori Gomi vs. Nate Diaz slated for UFC 135 in Denver

Takanori Gomi (32-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) and fellow lightweight Nate Diaz (13-7 MMA, 8-5 UFC) have agreed to meet at UFC 135, officials announced.

UFC 135 takes place Sept. 24 at Denver's Pepsi Center.

The main card, which airs on pay-per-view, features a light-heavyweight title fight between current champ Jon "Bones" Jones and former champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

However, it's not clear if Gomi vs. Diaz will be part of the broadcast.

Gomi fights a Diaz for the second time. In 2007 the former PRIDE champion took on big brother Nick Diaz at PRIDE 33. Gomi suffered a submission loss via gogoplata, but after his opponent tested positive for marijuana, the outcome was changed to a no-contest.

Gomi's career has been a mixed bag since then. He's 5-4 in his past nine fights, including 1-2 in the UFC. After a submission loss to Kenny Florian in his promotional debut, the Japanese notable scored a knockout win over Tyson Griffin. However, back in January, Clay Guida tapped him out with a guillotine choke.

Diaz looks to avoid his third straight defeat and his fourth loss in six fights. "The Ultimate Fighter 5" winner picked up a pair of wins at welterweight (over Rory Markham and Marcus Davis) but suffered recent decision losses to Dong Hyun Kim and Rory MacDonald. Before the recent skid, Diaz had won five straight fight-night bonuses (three "Fight of the Night" and two "Submission of the Night" awards).
