    Common brand name antidepressants include Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Luvox, Wellbutrin, Cymbalta, Effexor, Lexapro, Elavil, Remeron, Strattera and Sarafem.

    Antidepressant Warnings:
    There have been 134 drug regulatory agency warnings from eleven countries (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Russia, Italy, Denmark and Germany) and the European Union warning that antidepressant drugs cause side effects. These include the following (note that some warnings cite more than one side effect, so the list below may not be equal to the total number of warnings):



    • 37 warnings on antidepressants causing suicide/risk/attempts
    • 30 warnings on antidepressants causing heart problems
    • 21 warnings on antidepressants causing birth defects
    • 20 warnings on antidepressants causing Serotonin Syndrome
    • 10 warnings on antidepressants causing hostility/violence/aggression
    • 9 warnings on antidepressants causing withdrawal symptoms
    • 8 warnings on antidepressants causing self-harm
    • 6 warnings on antidepressants causing anxiety
    • 5 warnings on antidepressants causing mania or psychosis
    • 4 warnings on antidepressants causing death
    • 4 warnings on antidepressants causing hallucinations or delusional thinking
    • 4 warnings on antidepressants causing depression
    • 4 warnings on antidepressants causing involuntary movements
    • 2 warnings on antidepressants causing sexual dysfunction
    • 1 warning on antidepressants causing homicidal ideation


    Antidepressant Studies:

    There have been 150 studies in seventeen countries (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, Finland, France, Taiwan, Scotland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, India, Italy, Korea, Norway and Saudi Arabia) on antidepressant induced side effects. This includes a 2010 study from the Institute for Safe Medication Practices that found five antidepressants to be among the 10 prescription drugs most disproportionately linked with reports of violent behavior.



    The studies include the following (note that some studies cite more than one side effect, so the list below may not be equal to the total number of studies):



    • 25 studies on antidepressants causing birth defects or premature births
    • 23 studies on antidepressants causing suicide/risk/attempts
    • 15 studies on antidepressants causing heart problems
    • 14 studies on antidepressants causing death
    • 8 studies on antidepressants causing sexual dysfunction
    • 6 studies on antidepressants causing violence or hostility
    • 5 studies on antidepressants causing diabetes
    • 5 studies on antidepressants causing withdrawal symptoms
    • 4 studies on antidepressants causing depression
    • 2 studies on antidepressants causing homicidal ideation or actions
    • 2 studies on antidepressants causing mania or psychosis
    • 1 study on antidepressants causing anxiety
